Binary Opposition - Duality of the Self

Camille Eudes, Duality of the Self, 2023

Duality of the Self showcases opposition in various ways. Notably the piece creates a relationship between colourless and colourful, black and white, boring and fun, left and right, backwards and forwards, far and close, a clear subject and an obstructed subject, and finally linearity and roundness. In addition to these oppositions that can be found within the diptych, the duality in the artist’s educational journey can also be observed, which involves both mathematics and fine arts. Similarly to her own brain, the left image showcases the idea of a left-brain being more mathematical, linear thinking and logical, whereas the right image is representative of a right-brain that is more artistic, imaginative and intuitive, therefore creating a duality in her own self.
